Who am I?
Hello! I’m Oliver, an editor specialising in genre fiction and narrative nonfiction.
I work with authors and small presses to strengthen structure, clarify intent, and refine prose — always with respect for voice. I’m interested in what a piece of writing is trying to do, and how to help it do that more effectively, rather than imposing a single “correct” way to write.
Before focusing on editing, I spent several years working closely with senior business leaders in some of the world’s largest organisations, shaping long-form, narrative-driven writing around complex ideas. That experience shaped how I approach editorial work: analytically, collaboratively, and with an emphasis on purpose rather than surface polish.
Outside of my editing work, I’m an avid reader and a writer myself. I’m comfortable working across a wide range of genres, but fantasy and crime fiction will always hold a special place in my heart. Alongside that reader’s instinct, I bring years of professional writing and editorial experience, as well as academic training in literary criticism and theory, with a degree in English Literature from the University of East Anglia.
As an editor, I’m direct but not prescriptive. I aim to give writers the confidence to make informed decisions about their work, whether that means rethinking structure, tightening prose, or preparing a manuscript for submission or publication.
I work remotely with authors and publishers worldwide. And I’m friendly! If you’re not sure what level of editorial support is right for you, I’m always happy to have a brief consultation call (at no-cost).
