Structural / Narrative edit
Big-picture editorial guidance
A structural or narrative edit focuses on the foundations of your manuscript: how it’s built, how it moves, and how effectively it delivers what you’re trying to do.
Rather than addressing sentence-level polish, this edit looks at structure, pacing, clarity, and overall coherence. The aim is to help you understand what’s working, what isn’t yet landing, and how to approach revision with confidence.
My Approach
What you’ll receive:
A detailed editorial letter (typically 8–15 pages)
In-manuscript comments where helpful
A virtual (or in-person, where location allows) meeting to discuss the editorial letter and any follow-up questions
Clear, practical guidance to support your next draft
What I’ll focus on:
Overall structure and organisation
Pacing and narrative momentum
Character development or narrative voice
Clarity of argument or thematic throughline
Strengths, weaknesses, and priorities for revision
Best for:
Writers who know their manuscript needs direction or refinement before line-level editing, or who want a strategic, big-picture view before committing to deeper revisions.
My approach to structural editing is collaborative and non-prescriptive. I aim to give you a clear understanding of your manuscript and the confidence to make informed decisions about revision, rather than offering a single “correct” solution.
Not sure if this is the right service?
If you’re unsure whether your manuscript would benefit from a structural edit or a different level of support, I’m happy to advise before we begin.
